Professor Alistair Burns is a Consultant Psychiatrist and Professor of Old Age Psychiatry at The University of Manchester, with a distinguished career in dementia and mental health research. A former Editor of the International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry, he has published over 300 papers and 25 books. He established the Manchester Memory Clinic and helped develop old age liaison psychiatry services. Awarded a CBE in 2016 for his contributions to health and social care, he remains a leading authority in dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
Consultant Psychiatrist, MBBS BSc MRCPsych – Covering: North West
Dr Andrew Kiridoshi is a highly experienced Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist at Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust, working in community mental health services across the North West. He also serves as Associate Clinical Director for Older Adult Services and Undergraduate Tutor at the University of Liverpool. With a background in hospital mental health liaison teams, he specialises in capacity and cognitive assessments, alongside diagnosing and treating a full range of mental health conditions.
He has contributed to academic research, including a recent chapter on psychosocial interventions in dementia in a leading Royal College of Psychiatrists’ textbook.
Consultant Psychiatrist, MB ChB BSc MRCPsych – Covering: North West
Dr Katharine Humphreys initially graduated in Neuroscience in 2006 before achieving a Medical Degree in 2011, both completed at the University of Bristol. Dr Humphreys trained in psychiatry in the Northwest, achieving specialist training in Old Age Psychiatry in 2024. She is currently working as a Consultant in Later Life Psychiatry with the South Manchester Community Later Life Team. Here, she treats older adults with complex mental health disorders including depression, anxiety and psychosis. She is also involved in the diagnosis and treatment of dementia as well as capacity assessments. Dr Humphreys has a keen interest in service development and is involved in projects promoting recruitment and retention to community mental health teams. She is involved in the teaching of both undergraduate and postgraduate trainees and also sits on the Council for the Manchester Medical Society for Psychiatry symposia.
