Clinical Assessment and Diagnosis

THE FIRST STEP

Every case is unique and requires a tailored diagnostic approach. The first step, if you or someone close to you is experiencing or suspecting some form of cognitive impairment, is to get in touch with us to discuss the issues you are facing and to determine the best way forward.

INITIAL DOCTOR CONSULTATION

If appropriate, you will be designated a Halcyon Doctor who could either be a Consultant Psychiatrist, Neurologist or Geriatrician, depending on your specific symptoms and situation. The doctor conducts an initial consultation which lasts up to 90 minutes and forms the basis for the diagnosis.

The assessment is carried out in a calm and considerate manner and enables your Halcyon Doctor to gain a full understanding of your background. This may include medical and psychological history, current symptoms, an appropriate examination and discussions about further investigations and treatment.

FURTHER INVESTIGATIONS

Your designated Halcyon Doctor may reach a solid diagnosis without the need for complementary tests such as MRI or CT scans. However, if the consultant decides further investigation is essential, then all the necessary arrangements will be handled by us to ensure a colleague specialist or trusted clinic will see you swiftly. Rest assured, your Halcyon Doctor leads the assessment process from beginning to end.

DIAGNOSTIC REPORT

The assessment process is concluded with a formal diagnosis comprising a clear explanation of your condition and, if appropriate, a bespoke treatment plan. We aim to send you the diagnostic report within one week of completing the assessment.

Halcyon Doctors and their multidisciplinary team of Clinical Psychologists, Specialist Nurses and Therapists excel in treating a broad range of conditions, alleviating symptoms and maximising your overall health and wellbeing.

YOUR TREATMENT PLAN

Following diagnosis, a Halcyon Doctor will carefully consider your specific symptoms, as well as your preferences, discussing them with the multidisciplinary team if required. A proposed treatment and care plan will then be discussed with you, and with your agreement, your Halcyon Doctor will personally oversee it to ensure consistency of care.

TREATMENT, THERAPY AND CARE OPTIONS

Your Halcyon Doctor may prescribe and monitor drug treatments. In some circumstances it may be appropriate and beneficial to undergo Cognitive Behaviour Therapy with one of our Clinical Psychologists or have a consultation with an Occupational Therapist or Speech & Language Therapist. Depending on your overall health situation, you may also benefit from regular health reviews by one of our Specialist Nurses. Obviously, no treatment, therapy or care will commence without your prior and specific consent.

Some Drug Treatments We May Prescribe

Your Halcyon Doctor can arrange for most prescribed medication to be delivered to London postcodes within a matter of hours, or elsewhere in the UK by the next working day.

If you choose this free, convenient and discrete service, the doctor will electronically instruct our partner organisation Pharmacierge, who in turn will call you to take payment for your medication and arrange prompt delivery.

That’s all there is to it.

Alternatively, in case you prefer to use your local pharmacy, our doctor can give you a paper prescription at the end of your appointment.
