Professor Farooq Khan is a senior NHS Consultant Psychiatrist and Visiting Professor with extensive clinical and medico-legal experience in the assessment of psychiatric disorders, cognitive impairment, dementia and neurodegenerative conditions. He provides independent expert psychiatric opinion across a wide range of legal settings, including civil litigation, Court of Protection matters, professional regulatory cases, and complex capacity assessments.
His expertise encompasses the diagnosis and management of psychiatric conditions such as depression, psychosis, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, and complex presentations in older adults, as well as the psychiatric and behavioural consequences of brain injury and neurological illness. He has particular specialist knowledge in dementia, mild cognitive impairment, behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD), and the interface between psychiatric illness and neurocognitive disorders.
Professor Khan is Clinical Lead for Dementia (NHS England Midlands) and Consultant Psychiatrist at Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust.
